politics (iii)

hi F____

I think the students have very simple motives - to have fun with the omnipresent references to TJ on our campus and in our school. I think their intent is ironic, more than adulatory. So, in my opinion-- having spoken with the students -- it fits with your concern that there should be multiple lenses on the man and his legacy.

In general, I think humor is a very positive way of bringing multiple points of view forward without trying to ban particular forms of speech or impose an orthodoxy of some kind. I applaud the students' efforts to re-center the discourse that currently exists.
