embarrassing vocabularies of past lives

JT: How do we describe this thing? "Moving?" "Adjusting?" "Dynamic?"
SD: No. I hate that word.
JT: God, so do I. It reminds me of college. You know those words you overused in college that make you embarrassed every time you say them?
KT: Like "irony?"
SD: Oh, irony's more than just college.
JT: No, like "unremarkable." "Unevocative."
SD: That's Chicago for you. Words to describe apathy.
JT: They're actually from the UMass years.

You forgot quite a few entries in the embarrassing vocabulary list, but when a search of your page yielded no results for "livable" I breathed a sigh of relief- that shit is much worse than dynamic. Every time I hear or read about how "livable" Portland [OR] or some other bogus city is, I want to make the world a little less livable.

This list could be SO LONG: unpack, deconstruct, reframe, dialectic...

How wonderful to be free of it.

We've got a fellow UofC alum working at the cafe (embarrassing) and yesterday she said, unironically, "Don't essentialize her!" I was hoping I never had to hear that word again. Sigh.
